Everything you need to know about the oCal
So what is it?
big art, small ways
We already know that online funding platforms like Indiegogo and Kickstarter are effective tools for small companies. They help little organizations (like us!) connect with the people who want to support our work with a small donation (like you!).
These small gifts add up in a big way. Last year we raised $17,000 in donations under $500. That's a huge part of our budget, at just under half of what we need to produce one show.
This year, we asked ourselves: how can we better connect with this community of Orbiter 3 supporters? How can we honor their support year-round? Aren't people tired of Indiegogos? Can we make crowdsourced funding more, uh, FUN? Can we make it like a... game?
The Orbiter 3 Giving Calendar (we're calling it the oCal) is our radical campaign to raise a donation a day for 365 days.
Make a donation, claim a date
Help us fill up the calendar with small donations of $16 a day for 2016, and $17 a day for 2017. That's about $500 a month, or $6,000 a year. To make it really add up, we've solicited matching month donations from some of our biggest champions.
If we meet our goal of $500 a month in small donations, plus $500 a month in matching donations, we'll raise $12,000 for radical new plays between now and April 2017.

How to claim your date
Step 1: Sign In or Sign Up
Tell the calendar who you are using our super quick and secure sign-up system. It’s a one-time account just for this web app. We’ll never give your information away.
Step 2: Claim your date
Maybe it’s your birthday. Maybe it’s your mom’s birthday. Maybe it’s my birthday! Pick any open date between April 1, 2016 and March 31, 2017 to claim as your own and declare your support for Orbiter 3.
Step 3: Make a donation
Enter your donation amount (we suggest $16 for 2016 or $17 for 2017), your name, and any message you want to display on your date! (It'll go right under your name in quotation marks.)
Click “Continue To Payment” to complete your donation via our fiscal sponsor Fractured Atlas. A little check-out widget will appear where you can enter your credit card information and an email address for your receipt.
Now watch your date turn green!
You did it. This glorious day is now yours! Thank you for participating in a radical new way to raise funds for new plays. Because of you, Orbiter 3 is one day closer to a full year of support.
(Your date will be marked as Claim Pending on the calendar until Orbiter 3 receives a confirmation of your donation through our fiscal sponsor Fractured Atlas’s secure server.)
Frequently asked questions
Will I be charged when I choose my date, or on the date I choose?
You will be charged when you choose your date upon completing payment through Fractured Atlas. So if you’re using the calendar app on 7/1/2016, and you claim the date 8/31/2016, you’ll be charged on 7/1/2016.
Why do I need to make an account?
In order for the calendar to display your support, we need to have a record of you—just like Indiegogo, or Kickstarter. Plus, this is how we confirm you’re a real live person and not a scary robot.
What is Fractured Atlas?
Fractured Atlas empowers artists, arts organizations, and other cultural sector stakeholders by eliminating practical barriers to artistic expression. They’re our super rad fiscal sponsor, which means they provide 501c3 status to Orbiter 3, making your donation tax-deductible.
